Since 1927, the Yeshivah of Flatbush has stood at the forefront of American Jewish education and has set the standard of excellence emulated by other academic institutions. It has imbued its students with a thirst for knowledge, a commitment to Zionism, a love of the Hebrew language and the dedication to serve the greater Jewish and secular communities. The school philosophy is a synthesis of Judaic studies, liberal arts and extracurricular activities that places great emphasis on students’ character development. It has evolved into a unique complement of Jewish and American values that focuses on all aspects of education and enables our more than 11,000 graduates to meet the challenges of college and life.
The YOF Joel Braverman High School offers broad curricular and extracurricular choices, outstanding faculty, wide-ranging activities and non-stop energy. YOF students shine, with admissions to top colleges and post-high school Israel programs, recognition in national academic competitions and superb scores on the Jerusalem Exam. Students achieve honors in math, science, languages and the arts; every year, many of our students are named Advanced Placement Scholars. Over 20 AP offerings include Art History, Biology, Calculus, Chemistry, Computer Science, Economics (Micro and Macro), English Literature, Environmental Science, European History, Government and Political Science, Music Theory, Physics, Psychology, Spanish Language, Statistics, Studio Art, United States History and World History. Innovative curricular programs such as Accelerated Science Research and STEM, Robotics, Biotechnology/scientific engineering, creative and expository writing, internships that promote individual talents, interests, career exploration for students to explore fields of their choice and extensive College Guidance preparing students for college admissions from their freshman year.
YOF students have myriad opportunities to grow religiously and spiritually, and our Ivrit B’Ivrit focus and study of traditional sources enable them to be lifelong learners of Torah who continue to advanced levels of Torah scholarship.
Chesed and an awareness of the needs of others are at the core of our Yeshivah culture. School and community service programs, athletic and academic teams, publications and personal interest/talent oriented activities are among the over 120 extracurricular clubs that help students to thrive, build enduring friendships and develop sensitivity, responsibility and leadership abilities that benefit themselves and the greater community. The Yeshivah of Flatbush boasts a dedicated and highly professional faculty from all over the world. Our caring teachers share their expertise, enthusiasm, and energy with their students, encouraging and inspiring them to achieve and excel. Faculty members are role models and mentors for our students inside and outside the classroom. With extensive training both in content area and pedagogical philosophy, our teachers are able to kindle the desire to learn in all of our students. Many teachers hold doctoral and masters degrees. They are committed to professional expand professional development through continuing studies in order to provide the most engaging and successful learning environment.
